Blades for Better is a student led nonprofit initiative dedicated to reducing environmental waste within the fencing community. Founded by Yoonsoo Kim as part of a project inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the organization focuses on collecting broken fencing blades and responsibly recycling them through local metal facilities or local artists.

What sets Blades for Better apart is its environmental first approach. While the funds generated from recycling are small, they are used to support fencing related causes and community organizations. However, these donations are secondary to the core purpose of the initiative, which is keeping fencing equipment out of landfills and building a culture of sustainability within the sport.

Through partnerships with clubs, athletes, and competition organizers, Blades for Better offers a simple and effective way to make fencing more environmentally responsible, one broken blade at a time.
